Gift Ideas for Mother's Day During Quarantine

Mother’s Day is different this year. While some protocols are loosening up, many of us are still separated from our moms. We’ve tried to think of some fun and creative ideas that will honor mom and remain mainly contactless unless you all live in the same house.

This year, many moms are feeling overwhelmed so we’re including things like wine subscriptions, meal subscriptions, and grocery delivery to help ease her stress. However, we still want to include some fun gifts like flowers and chocolate and spa kits as well, plus many others.

Breakfast in Bed

Many moms are tired and overwhelmed with working and assisting with virtual schooling. I’ve heard many of them crave breakfast in bed from their husband and children so they can have one day off. In fact, you can use a Meijer gift card and get the groceries delivered to limit your contact with people. This is a great way to get the kids involved in preparing some of mom’s breakfast favorites, such as pancakes, eggs, and bacon. Take the time to arrange it on a pretty tray with a bud vase and a sing stem rose.

Flowers and Chocolate

This combination is a classic for a reason. Since many of us can’t visit our mothers safely this Mother’s Day, the classic combo is easy to send whether your mom lives across town or across the country. I really like this arrangement from 1-800-Flowers. It includes 2 dozen multicolored roses and a pastel pink ceramic vase with the quote “A Mother Loves with All Her Heart.” This Mother’s Day flower combination also features a 5-oz gift box of Belgian chocolate truffles, including caramel and milk ganache.

Jewelry

Your mom has always been there for you, and this year, you want to show her just how much she means to you. Send her a sterling silver Pandora Snake Chain Bracelet and add some beautiful silver mom and family-themed charms to accent it. This Love You Mum Infinity Heart Charm is one of my favorites, and it features a heart-shaped charm with the infinity ring wrapping the outside of the heart. “Love you mom” is inscribed on the side, using a heart instead of the “u” for an extra cute detail.

Photo Gifts

Now that the world has gone totally digital, we don’t give our mothers tangible photo gifts as often. I know my stepmom comments she doesn’t have many of the three of us all grown up because we live in three different states, making taking pictures together a rarity. I know many moms would love actual photo gifts that show off their children and grandchildren. Shutterfly carries many options, including this Contemporary Joy Personalized Frame, which holds up to six photos of various sizes. If your mom works from home, you could opt for this Blessed Love Trio Mouse Pad, which holds up to three family photos. If you have trouble picking the ideal photo gift, give her a Shutterfly gift card and help her create her gift by emailing her some family photos.

Spa Day Basket

Is your mom overwhelmed by the end of the day from working and taking care of the house? Gift her with some relaxing spa goodies so she can take care of herself. This is the perfect gift idea if you live nearby because you can fill a large wicker basket with bath salts, foot soaks, and a manicure and pedicure kit. Add a Foot spa and massager so that your mom can enjoy getting a spa pedicure and resting her tired feet at home. Add a bath pillow and a scented candle for when she’s soaking in the tub. For the finishing touch, include a gift card to Spafinder so that your mom can indulge in having someone else pamper her. Gift Card Granny even offers a Mother’s Day gift card design.

Plan a Virtual Movie Night with Mom

If you and your mom are movie buffs and miss going to the show, plan a virtual movie night as her Mother’s Day Gift. Begin by buying your mom this 100 Scratch Off Poster. It features Oscar-winning and critically acclaimed films, allowing you and your mom to watch both classics and modern movies. Some you may have in your DVD and blu-ray collections, but you can also include a Hulu gift card to stream some movies or a Visa gift card to purchase additional movies. Then, all you need to do is select a time, meet on FaceTime or Zoom and watch the movie together and discuss your thoughts. Just remember to have snacks like popcorn, chocolate, and wine or it wouldn’t be a movie night at home.

Take an Online Class Together

Your mom may get bored, so consider buying her an annual membership to Masterclass, an online streaming service with classes taught by industry experts. If you purchase one membership, it comes with a second free one so you can take classes with her and talk with her on Zoom or Facetime, similar to the online movie night. Most of the classes are short only 10 or 15 minutes and you can choose from some of her favorite activities like a cooking class with Gordon Ramsey or Yoga Fundamentals with Donna Farhl.

A Hiking Gift Basket

Is your mom outdoorsy? Would she love to go on a long hike and explore nature if she had the opportunity? Then, give her the America the Beautiful National Park Pass. It allows entrance at over 2,000 National Parks throughout the United States. To go along with this gift idea, give your mom a personalized water bottle, and a new Fitbit activity tracker so that your mom can count her steps.  To finish, consider including a gas gift card so that the road trip to the nearest national park costs less.

Wine Membership

This has been a stressful year for everyone and if your mom prefers a glass of wine to unwind but doesn’t want to venture out to restaurants or bars yet, a wine membership may be perfect for her. These memberships will deliver wine bottles right to her door, and all you need to do I answer a few questions about what kind of wine sommelier your mom is and her taste preferences. There are many different options, including Winc whose wines come from partner vineyards. Splash Wines is another favorite since it’s a family-owned subscription, and you can build your bottles as low as $4.99 or buy a membership for as low as $59. Bright Cellars uses an algorithm similar to a dating app and tests how 18 different preferences match a wine profile to find you or your loved one a “wine soulmate.” With all these wine memberships out there, you’ll find one mom will love. But if not, send her a Mastercard gift card and she can order her own wine membership.

Meal Kit Subscription

Many moms are craving more help around the house since they’re exhausted and stressed. You can help by purchasing your mom a meal kit subscription kit. This way, she doesn’t have to meal plan or spend time grocery shopping. You have an array of options, where some meals are already cooked and others are the ingredients waiting to be cooked. This gives you plenty of choices, depending on how much your mom likes to cook or if she prefers to just pop something in the microwave and call it done. If she’s short on time, considering ordering her a subscription to Freshly, where the meals come freshly prepared and portioned to your door. You can choose between six, nine, and 12 meals weekly. If she wants to prepare high-quality meals, opt for Blue Apron, which feels like preparing “restaurant-quality,” cuisine. Hello Fresh is somewhere in the middle and offers options and is affordable.

Maid Service

If your mom complains no one helps her around the house and she just wants to rest after work, think about hiring her maid service for a few months. Services such as Merry Maids will come in and clean while the family is at school and work so your mom can return to a freshly cleaned house. They based it on your mom's preferences though most services clean weekly to keep rooms like the bathrooms and kitchens sanitized and the bedrooms and living room dusted and vacuumed. It may not sound like a fun gift, but it will probably be one that your mom appreciates.
