Have you ever left Target only spending $10? If so, can you share the secret? It’s hard to avoid temptation and stay within your allotted budget...especially with the Target Dollar Spot section in the front of the store. Gift Card Granny found the best (and easiest) ways to save money at Target plus a peek at their new pilot rewards program. And if you’re curious about the Target REDcard, look no further – Granny has been researching the details of their credit and debit cards.
On top of the 5% off, other Target REDcard program perks include free shipping on the majority of offers from Target.com and an additional 30 extra days for returns (restrictions apply). Note that the Target REDcard program is a credit card and not a free rewards program. However, Granny’s research found that Target is testing a new rewards program through the Cartwheel app. Available in select locations, Cartwheel Perks allows customers to earn points for each dollar spent in-store. When 5,000 points are met, shoppers can redeem for select products worth $10 to $20.
Since each dollar is worth 10 points, you’ll have to spend $500 before seeing any sort of reward. Is this really a perk? It depends on how often you frequent Target and whether or not you even like the giveaway products. But don’t worry about getting a Target credit card or earning 5,000 reward points. You can get great steals and savings with these 8 money-saving hacks for Target.
1. Rain Checks
Target offers rain checks when sale items are out of stock. This provides customers the opportunity to receive the sale price of an item when inventory becomes available at that store. Take the nine digit Department, Class, Item (DPCI) number to any register to get a rain check. Target’s rain checks are valid for 45 days and are not applicable to every item (ie hot items).
2. Discount Gift Cards
Whether you’re picking up groceries, clothing or toiletries, save on your purchase with Target discount gift cards. Depending on the card value and percentage off, Gift Card Granny can save you up to 7% off.
3. Price Match Policy
Don’t get frustrated if you’ve found a better deal on a product that was previously purchased. Target will match the price of an item within 14 days after purchase. Limitations apply during the holiday season and are restricted to qualifying competitors.
4. Free Gift Cards
Look for deals where you can earn a gift card when buying a certain product. While you are unable to use the gift card towards your initial transaction, you can easily just ask to do a second transaction and use it then.
5. Use Coupons
You are not limited to only using Target coupons. Look through your local circulator to find manufacturer’s coupons that can be applied to your purchase.
Granny Tip: Consult Granny's Secret Deals, a curated list of the best gift card deals where you get bonus gift cards and other goodies when purchasing a gift card. This list is updated daily. Giving is twice as nice when you get something in return!
6. Cartwheel App
The Cartwheel app provides extra savings of 5 to 50% on select name-brand or Target-brand products. Browse the app's available deals by category or scan a barcode while shopping in-store. When you're ready to check out, show the final barcode and your savings will be deducted from your purchase.
Granny Tip: If an item you scan does not have a discount, Cartwheel suggests other similar items with an offered discount.
7. BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag)
Did you know that you can save when you bring your own bags to Target? Get $0.05 off your purchase with every reusable bag you use to transport your goodies back home.
8. Browse The End Caps
You'll find some of Target's best sales featured on their end caps.
